Moving to California really changed my perspective on health and fitness.  Previously, I subscribed to the “eat reasonably and just don’t sit on your butt all day” way of life–which I thought was reasonable.  But California is full of national parks, hiking trails, and amazing beaches that (unlike my hot and humid hometown in Louisiana) almost always have incredible weather which inspires you to be outside.

There is a culture of wellness here unlike anything I have previously experienced.  It is definitely a sort of ‘positive’ peer pressure.  While there is always pressure to look great here there is even more of an emphasis on feeling great and taking care of yourself.  Being that I’m a mom of 2 kids (granted – I only had one of those the good old-fashioned way) and Southern girl who just can’t seem to give up her dessert, I’m never going to be a size 0.  Nor do I have any plans to be.  I love my body and am proud of the efforts I make and have made, especially over the past 3 years, to keep it healthy.

I’ll be totally honest – I still don’t love working out – but I sure do love the way I feel after my workout is finished!  I like to set goals for myself with rewards for reaching milestones–for instance if I work out 20 days in a month then I treat myself to a new set of workout clothes!

Unfortunately for my wallet, workout gear is insanely expensive.  Pants can run as high as 80 or 90 dollars a pair – with tops easily costing in the $50 range.  When Walmart approached me and asked if I wanted to check out the newest line of workout gear from Avia at Walmart, I was more than intrigued.  Then my intrigue turned to excitement when I saw the phenomenal pricing–hold on to your (overly pricey) yoga pants because the entire outfit above only cost me a grand total of $23.  For both pieces.  Together.

The top that I’m wearing is the Avia Women’s Performance Singlet Knit Tank, and it retails for $7.98.  It is a moisture wicking fabric and comes in 5 great colors.  I especially love the banded detailing on the back.  I prefer my workout clothes to be snug, and I normally wear a medium.  I am wearing the shirt in a size medium here, but I think in the future I will buy it in a small – so depending on the fit that you prefer you might choose to purchase a size down.

I loved that the color of the top matched the detailing on the Avia Women’s Performance Capri Pants, which retail for $14.86.  The pants are also made of a moisture-wicking fabric, and I loved the hidden pocket detail in the waistband so that I can keep my car key or a bit of cash with me if I head out for a run.  I also found that the fit was a bit more roomy than I am used to, but I would probably stick with this size because I’m a bit more hipalicious than most people.

After we took these photos I took these babies on a run at the gym and they held up exceptionally well.   They also washed well and I have worn them again since then with no problems.  My only complaint is that the material is a bit thin so it doesn’t compress as much as I’m used to, however it’s the perfect weight for summer. So, if you’re in Walmart and in the market for some new workout gear, be sure to check this line from Avia out!

Love the colors! On another note, I’ve shopped everywhere for jeans and I always wind up back at Walmart for my favorite Riders by Lee! They fit great. No gaping in the back and the stretch material feels and wears wonderfully. I love Walmart! I don’t think I have ever gone in and come out with nothing.

Great article and I love that I learned a new word today, ‘Hipalicious’. :D That makes me smile.

You look GREAT! I didn’t know Walmart carried work out clothes, and soo attractive! I’m going to get some for my exercise class….Love them, but I won’t look as good as you!

  4. Diana says:

Sooo, if I buy this stuff with my body magically look like yours? Hahaha. Must be nice!

Wish it came in plus sizes! I can’t find any cute workout clothes to wear to the gym.

Missy, I was able to find XXL in tops, shorts and capri’s. I don’t like my tops to fit snug, so I purchased a size up. Fits great. Check in-store and you may be able to find your size.

I also like a color pick-me-up in fresh workout gear. I shop Walmart, but I would be willing to pay a little more if they did not push down on suppliers and employees so much to get these unrealistically low prices. A slightly higher price would still be much better than anywhere else.

I have recently started biking and really need more comfortable workout clothes. These look great! Do you think they will have things for cooler weather when fall rolls around?

  8. Katie says:

“Hipalicious.” I love it. :) I’m a fitness instructor so I need a lot workout wear, and I often shop at Walmart for it. Cute clothes at great prices.

I’ve been looking for some affordable workout wear so can hardly wait to get on over to Walmart and see what I can find. I already buy my Danskin pants (knee length and long) at an affordable cost there but they are all black and all grey. I’d like a little color in my workout gear so these look like just the thing. I’ll let you know in the future my opinion about this brand too.
