It is officially my absolute favorite time of the year. I’m generally a happy person, but my happiness kind of goes off of the charts as soon as we usher in the month of October. I just love the fall. I love the cooler weather, the changing leaves (as much as they change here in Southern California), and I love that fall means it’s time for one of my favorite holidays – Halloween!
My parents did a great job of making Halloween a super fun time of year for me when I was a child, and now that I have my own kids, it is something I enjoy passing along to them. We love carving pumpkins, baking up spooky and delicious treats and of course – we LOVE dressing up for Halloween!
This year we were again provided with the chance to head into our local Walmart store with a gift card to check out the vast selection of Halloween costumes available for kids, teens, and even adults. I allowed each of the kids to pick out a costume, and then we looked at all of the fun accessories too – they had a great selection of wigs, crazy eyelashes, face paint and makeup, plus tons of items that are great for keeping kids safe on Halloween like light up pumpkin flashlights and glow sticks.
Do you remember the excitement of choosing your costume when you were a kid? I love seeing how over the moon our kids get and how much their faces light up when they discover aisles full of possibilities. The Halloween section at our local Walmart was huge and had a really nice variety of costumes – from more traditional costumes like spooky vampires and black cats to licensed options like Iron Man and Rapunzel. They even had options for pets – I think I’m going to head back to the store this week and get a costume for our dog, Holly. It really was a one-stop Halloween shop – we were able to get everything we needed (plus some) in one visit to Walmart.
In the end, they chose to be a Pink Butterfly and a Werewolf – and they had a blast running around in their new costumes! We had a $50 budget and after buying both costumes we still had a little bit of money left, so they also each chose a glow stick and a light up pumpkin. We are saving the glow sticks for Halloween night, but the light-up pumpkin flashlights are on each of their nightstands, and they love to use them to light up their rooms as they are falling asleep at night. As usual, I am impressed by how far our money goes at Walmart – we really were able to get more Halloween fun for our money.
Be sure to check out all of the great options at the Walmart Halloween shop – and hey, if you find it easier to shop from home you still have time to get a costume shipped to you!
What do you think of the kids choices? What are you planning to be for Halloween? I love to hear from you – please share your thoughts in the comments!
