Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats - Halloween recipes for kids

I love the holidays – you’ll find that I’m just wild about Christmas – but coming in a close second to Christmas on my list of favorite holidays is by far Halloween. I’ve loved it since I was a little kid – I think my parents did a really wonderful job of making it a fun holiday for me and that always stuck with me. Now that we have two kids of our own I really enjoy trying to make Halloween just as fun and exciting as I remember it being – and that starts with fun projects!

I had already decided to make some Frankenstein-inspired rice krispie treats so yesterday I stopped by Walmart with the kids and picked up what I needed. Because I’m lazy I bought the pre-made, pre-cut, individually wrapped Rice Krispie treats in a box of 8. However, you can always make your own rice krispie treats if you’d like – it just adds in an extra step. Also, I thought these would be really cute on cake sticks but for the purposes of this blog post I just placed them on a plate.

Here were my materials:

1 box of Rice Krispie Treats

Ghirardelli Classic White Chocolate Chips

Wilton ‘Vibrant Green’ Candy Melts

Great Value Chocolate Sprinkles

Wilton Sparkle Gel Icing

To make these awesome Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats first unwrap all of your rice krispie treats. Empty the entire bottle of chocolate sprinkles into a small bowl. In another small bowl, melt the entire package of Wilton Candy Melts in the microwave by following the directions on the back of the package. Using a knife, spread the candy mixture over the tops, sides, and front of the rice krispie treat. Roll the tops of the treats in the chocolate sprinkles to create the hair, and then place on a sheet of parchment paper. Add two of the white chocolate chips for eyes before moving on to the next treat. Repeat until you’ve reached your desired amount of treats. Using the chocolate icing, add dots on top of the chocolate chips to create the eyes, and draw different shaped mouths. Don’t forget the stitches above Frankenstein’s eyes!

Place the treats in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to allow them to harden. Allow them to reach room temperature before serving.

Enjoy – Happy Halloween!

How many were you able to make? I have to make about 40 and I want to make sure I have enough of the ingredients. Thanks!
