UPS My Choice® For the Busy Bride

4 Comments 22 August 2012

So, a month from today I’m getting married.

Just reading the sentence above this one is enough to make my heart beat so rapidly that you’d think I was Jack Bauer – facing down terrorists in a back alley in Los Angeles. But nope – just committing to spend the rest of my life with another person, that’s all.

Ok fine, that’s huge. Lucky for me I’m marrying a great guy that I love with all of my heart – and a month from today, on September 22, 2012 I will walk down the aisle to the man of my dreams and promise to spend the rest of my life making him happy. There will be dinner, there will be cocktails, and then of course, there may even be a few gifts.

Which is great because I’m currently down to one square baking pan and one teeny tiny frying pan that I have to clean between the eggs and bacon on the weekends. We’re like a frat house over here. Except they probably don’t clean the pan between the eggs and the bacon – or at all.

Being a month out from the wedding means that the gifts have already started arriving. We have family coming in from out of town, so a lot of them are shipping their gifts ahead of their arrival. For instance – here is the photo of the state of the space on the floor between my entertainment center and love seat. It’s jam packed with wedding gifts!

As a blogger I already get a ton of packages. My UPS man knows me by name and I by his. He is the one who initially told me, almost a year ago, about UPS My Choice – in retrospect it was probably because it made his job much easier. The packages come fast and furious around here, and with all that is going on in our lives there isn’t always someone here to accept the packages. We live in an apartment complex, and since my name isn’t on the least the front office refuses to sign for them and they end up getting returned to sender. I started leaving little notes on my door “Please leave all packages – I accept responsibility.” So one day, when my awesome UPS guy saw me, he told me about UPS My Choice and that I could sign a release to have my packages left at the door.

With UPS My Choice, I receive an email the day before my package is scheduled to arrive. I can see who the sender is, and I also have the choice to reroute my package for a nominal fee. I have an approximate 4 hour delivery window in which I can expect to receive my package which really helps with scheduling my day. However, because I’ve signed an online release with specific instructions to leave my package at the door, and never to bring them to the front office, I can be sure that my packages will be here waiting for me when I get home.

This is exactly why UPS My Choice is great for brides; you know exactly when wedding gifts are scheduled to arrive (Oh look, a package weighing 10 lbs from Crate and Barrel is on its way tomorrow between 2:30 and 6:30 pm!) and you can have them rerouted for a nominal fee if you aren’t going to be home. I have already planned for UPS My Choice to hold our deliveries at the local UPS office during our honeymoon in Bora Bora – so I’m positive that all of our items will be waiting for us when we get back!

The basic UPS My Choice service is free, but there is also a premium service that costs under $50 per year. The premium service gives you access to an online home delivery calendar, and also gives you the option to schedule your deliveries in a smaller, two-hour window for a $5 fee.

Thanks to UPS I have a $50 American Express gift card to give away so that one of you can try the UPS My Choice Premium service yourself! However, don’t forget, the basic service, which is what I have – is free – so be sure to sign up and start keeping track of your deliveries!

I love that I can change the delivery address to a ups store if I know I’ll be home late the night it’s scheduled to be delivered.

I love that you know exactly when wedding gifts are scheduled to arrive – no more waiting around or worrying that your gifts are unattended at your front doorstep!
