Spring Fashion: One Tank, Five Ways

6 Comments 12 March 2014

I know that other parts of the country are still shaking off a freeze, but fortunately here in California we have had some amazing weather that at times has bumped right up against 80 degrees.  So, when I heard that Walmart was carrying tanks tops in 27 different colors for only $3.94 each, I thought it was the perfect time for a spring fashion post!

Tank tops are an amazingly versatile piece and every woman should have several stock piled in her wardrobe (and honestly, for $3.94 each that really is a reasonable goal).  Basic colors like black, white, and navy are always good choices (I always buy 2 when I’m buying them in white because inevitably I spill something on one of them).  Don’t feel like you have to just stick to the basics because Spring has sprung – so it is the perfect time to add a splash of color to your everyday outfits!

I personally mix tanks into my outfits roughly twice a week this time of the year.  It is not uncommon to see me wear a tank top to dinner one week, and then the same top with my pajama bottoms the next week!  Like I said – they are the perfect staple and you can mix them up to suit almost any

Don’t believe me?  Here are 5 different ways to style a tank – all using the Faded Glory tank top that is available for $3.94 at Walmart (easy on the eyes and on your budget my friends)!  I styled this using clothes and accessories that I already had in my closet, but I created 5 fresh new looks just by buying 3 new tank tops from Walmart – spending a grand total of $12 to create these fabulous ensembles!  Take a look!

Ladies Who Lunch

For this first look I did a little color-blocking – perfect for spring! I love red and turquoise together – it is one of my favorite color combinations because it is unexpected but it looks fantastic together! The tank top is Faded Glory, the skirt is George (also available at Walmart), and the shoes, belt, and clutch are my own.

Beachy Keen

This is a great look for when I’m taking my kids to the pool or the beach.  I paired a Faded Glory tank top in teal with one of my favorite maxi skirts, gladiator sandals, and one of my favorite necklaces for a simple but pulled together look that can take me anywhere.

Summer Chic

I love to accessorize with scarves – and while you may not think of pairing a scarf with a tank top – it’s actually quite brilliant.  The key is to choose a scarf that is made of a lightweight, summery fabric – not something you’d wrap up with to protect yourself from the cold.  The scarf is one of my favorite pieces – I get compliments on it all the time – I love telling people that it is from Walmart!  I left the tank untucked, rolled the bottom of my jeans, and wore my favorite grey sneakers.  Voila!

Work it, Girl

Wearing a tank top under a blazer is a brilliant way to stay cool in the warmer months and helps to add a pop of color to an otherwise business casual outfit.  Imagine this same outfit with a black blouse underneath – it’s not nearly as exciting. Pair the tank with your favorite jeans, your favorite heels, and some fun accessories and you have an outfit that is perfect for day or night.

New York Minute

Here I went for a completely monochromatic look – all black.  This look always makes me think of New York City – where black seems to be some sort of unofficial “official” color.  I choose a black Faded Glory tank top, and paired it with my black skinny jeans, black sandals, and a black cardigan with lace detailing to add some texture to the look.  I threw on a red skinny belt for a pop of color (I was actually looking for my leopard print belt but it was hiding from me – this one worked just as well) and a long pendant necklace.  Perfect for a night out!

So there you have it.  One tank top. Three colors. Styled five ways.  What did you think?  Do you wear tank tops?  What is your favorite way to style them?  Don’t forget to check out Walmart for a whopping 27 different colors and patterns of this awesome Faded Glory tank top!
