Tree Top and Tanaka Farms

3 Comments 21 May 2013

Earlier this month I returned from Mom 2.0 summit, which is hands-down my favorite conference of the year. The conference itself had a number of sponsors, but none of them stood out quite like Tree Top. Yes, we’re talking apple juice!

Tree Top was kind enough to invite me to visit Tanaka Farms here in Orange County with them. When I received the invitation I was thrilled because my kids already drink Tree Top (and if I’m being honest, so do I!) so when I read that email I responded with “I have Tree Top in my refrigerator right now!” I can’t even step foot in a Starbucks with my kids without them clamoring for the TreeTop juice boxes – so I started buying them for them to take to school in their lunches. Naturally, I welcomed the chance to learn more about the company behind a product that we use daily.

Visiting the farm with the Tree Top team, especially Dan Winiecke, was extremely eye-opening. Dan travels the western US as a fruit buyer of conventional and organic fruit, so he was really able to teach us some interesting things about the crops that we were seeing. While we were there, we were each given a bag to pick cilantro, sugar snap peas, spinach, bok choy, and radishes – and Dan showed us how to find the very best of the available crop and explained to us what we should look for when evaluating produce and fruit for purchase.

Little did I know that when we were finished picking items fresh from the fields, we would wash and prepare it ourselves for lunch!

The meal was delicious, even more so because it was prepared fresh from the fields – I know it might sound crazy but I really could taste a difference in the freshness of the produce. While we ate, we learned a bit more about Tree Top – like:

  • Tree Top is a grower-owned cooperative (and has been since 1960!)
  • They source locally whenever possible
  • Tree Top apple juice is made with 100% USA apples

I have to tell you though, my favorite takeaway from the entire event was a quote from Sharon Miracle at Tree Top, who said that the brands priorities are “people, planet, then profit” — in that order. I loved having an insiders peek into such a large corporation – and I especially loved knowing that their priorities align so closely with mine and that of my family.

If you want to learn more about Tree Top and all they have to offer (it’s a lot) you can visit the Tree Top website (check out all the great recipes), or follow Tree Top on Twitter, or even check out Tree Top on Facebook.

Thank you Tree Top for such a tremendously positive, educational experience. It was truly the highlight of my time at Mom 2.0!

Disclosure: Tree Top invited me to attend their blogger event. I was not asked to write a post and I was not compensated for this post or for my attendance at the event. I wrote this post because I really love the brand and am proud to share that with you, my lovely readers. You know I keep it real. xo

That looks like so much fun – I can’t believe that you got to eat the food right after picking it – so cool.

I’m with you on the TreeTop juices in Starbucks, my kids go crazy over them and I usually have to buy one for there and one “to go” for all three of them.
