For years the months of February and September found me in the middle of Manhattan caught up in the amazing circus that is Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. However since making the move to California my New York trips have become almost non-existent and flying back to the east coast in the middle of the snowiest time of the year just seems cruel – even if the lure of the tents is strong. Thankfully I have wonderful, amazingly stylish friends who live in the city and often, one of them will agree to cover a show for me.
Which brings me to my gorgeous friend Alana (check our her site Techyness), who agreed to step in this Fashion Week and be my right hand woman. Ever so chic, she showed up in all black with killer YSL heels that probably left every woman in the tents drooling. Here is her coverage of Custo Barcelona’s Fall 2013 Collection. –Erika
“Beauty and the Beast” was the theme for Custo Barcelona’s Fall 2013 ready-to-wear presentation at New York Fashion Week. And luckily this version of Beauty and the Beast is something that is more within your reach than a man-turned-beast or singing teacups. Instead this showing was more of the contrast between the feminine and the wild.
Big looks on the runway included ultra-mini dresses paired with patterned jackets of shaggy fur or wool. The colorful prints and mix of textures will allow any man or woman to easily pair with basics they already own. What i really loved about this look is how different these two pieces can look separate or apart.
One wearable and fun piece that stood out to me on the runway was this long grey jacket with hints of gold, dark grey texture and POCKETS. Something i would love to throw on over leggings to look instantly presentable.
Mixing texture with sparkle and spikes was showcased in a long-sleeved mini dress that showcases the hourglass features of the female form. This one was sparkling on the runway!
Overall it was a great day in the tents at lincoln center, and it was packed full of fashionistas and fabulous shoes. If you want to take part in the action from home, make sure to check out the runway shows that you can watch at home on the MBFW website.
Custo Barcelona’s shows are always so innovative. So cool that Alana was able to attend!
I *love* Custo Barcelona. His shows always have such great energy. I watched the live stream and was actually surprised – he usually favors such bright colors and combinations – this is subdued for him and not what we are used to seeing. Still, I like it.
You’re so right Anne. My first show with him was full of pulsing light and crazy colors. I’ve never forgotten it. Thanks for your comment!
Damn – that Alana is so hot she got me to stop lurking and write a comment.
I imagine she gets that a lot. :) She is full of awesome.
